Thinking Versus Speaking and Writing Rates
By David B. Ellis (1/20/26) A central distinction in action-focused speaking is the dramatic difference between the speed of human thinking and the speed of external expression. This distinction was first introduced in Becoming a Master Student and later refined through learning-through-action teaching and communicating. [1]. Human thinking operates at extraordinary speed.
The Origins of Communicating To Results, Beyond Judgments To Actions
Communicating To Results is a term coined in 2025 by educator and author David B. Ellis to describe a way of communicating that most directly influences outcomes in complex human systems. Although the name is recent, the work itself represents the integration of more than five decades of study, teaching, research, and applied inquiry into ways language, intentions, and actions influence results in what he calls Action Coaching.
Communicating To Results, Beyond Judgments To Actions
This work focuses exclusively on what the individual communicator can actually control and surrendering everything else.
Surrender is defined as accepting, allowing, releasing, permitting, not fighting, and not resisting. It does not mean giving up or being passive. It means stopping the attempt to control what cannot be controlled.
